Hi, I'm Melvin Maya

If you had told me back in my 20s that I’d still be single in my 40s, I probably would’ve laughed it off—but here I am. As they say, time waits for no one, and I often catch myself wishing I had spent more of my 20s and 30s exploring the world. But instead of dwelling on missed opportunities, I’m focused on making up for lost time and diving headfirst into the adventures still waiting for me.

In recent years, I’ve discovered a real love for cruising. There’s something magical about being out at sea, waking up in a new port, and exploring different cultures without the hassle of constantly packing and unpacking. I’m excited to continue cruising and visit as many ports and countries as possible. But I’m not limiting myself to just cruises—I also have a soft spot for spontaneous road trips and quick weekend getaways. Whether it’s hopping on a short flight to a nearby city or hitting the open road with no set plan, I love the freedom that comes with these kinds of trips.

Beyond Cruises: My Ever-Growing Travel Bucket List

One adventure that’s high on my bucket list is a cross-country rail trip. The idea of seeing the U.S. from the window of a train, passing through landscapes I might never otherwise see, really speaks to the traveler in me. If you’ve ever taken a long rail journey and have tips or stories, I’d love to hear from you!

While I’m drawn to warmer destinations (being from Houston, TX, does that to you), I’m also itching to experience true winter travel. The little snow we get here in Houston is nothing compared to the powdery landscapes in places like Colorado or even the Alps. I’d love the chance to bundle up and experience a real winter wonderland someday.

Internationally, aside from cruises, I’ve only been out of the country once so far, but there’s a long list of destinations calling my name. It’s just a matter of narrowing down which places to visit first and figuring out how to make it happen.

As I mentioned, I’m single, and that was part of the inspiration behind naming this site and my social media Travel With Melvin. It’s not just about inviting you to join me virtually through my blogs and videos—it’s also an open invitation to my family, friends, and maybe even some of you reading this to actually come along on some of these adventures. Traveling is more fun when it’s shared, whether it’s in person or through the stories I tell.

So, whether you’re a fellow cruiser, a road trip junkie, or someone just dreaming about your next escape, I hope you’ll stick around and join me on this journey. Let’s explore the world—one adventure at a time!
