NYC Weekend Highlights | Brooklyn Bridge & Empire State Building
The Brooklyn Bridge Walk topped my bucket list for years, and this NYC weekend made it a reality. Even with the Empire State Building calling our names, a storm approached as we stepped onto the bridge. Rain started as a drizzle, but soon it poured heavily, creating a memorable adventure. Thankfully, I captured the moment with my Google Pixel XL2 as we paused under the bridge arches. The Empire State Building awaited, promising spectacular night views despite the weather.
Brooklyn Bridge Walk in the Rain
Starting the Brooklyn Bridge Walk, we quickly felt the storm's arrival. The drizzle became a downpour within minutes. Still, we persisted, embracing the weather rather than avoiding it. Sheltering briefly beneath the arches allowed me to snap a selfie, marking item #366 from my bucket list. Switching from my Canon M50 to the Google Pixel XL2 saved our photo session. Despite the wet conditions, we captured remarkable moments of NYC's iconic bridge before hailing an Uber toward the Empire State Building.
Empire State Building by Night
Visiting the Empire State Building at night turned out to be perfect, despite—or perhaps because of—the rain. Fewer visitors meant quicker access. We swiftly reached the 80th floor, but reflections on windows made photos difficult. The floor featured historical displays but lacked the stunning views I sought. Moving higher became our next step.
Breathtaking 86th Floor Views
On the 86th floor, we discovered an indoor space and an outdoor observation deck. The chilly temperatures and fierce winds challenged us, but the breathtaking NYC nighttime views made enduring it worthwhile. Despite the difficult conditions, I managed to capture a few stunning images. Experiencing New York from this perspective justified every shivering moment.
Exclusive 102nd Floor Observatory
Our journey continued upward to the exclusive 102nd floor observatory. Fewer tourists chose this pricier experience, providing us ample room to enjoy the panoramic city views. Although my external mic failed and drowned my voice in wind noise, my message remained clear: visiting this floor offered unmatched visibility and comfort away from crowds. The experience exceeded expectations and justified the added expense.
Bucket List Dreams Fulfilled
Completing both the Brooklyn Bridge Walk and the Empire State Building visit fulfilled two significant bucket list items. Even with rain, wind, and cold weather, this NYC weekend brought unforgettable adventures. Future visits in clearer weather promise even better photography opportunities and enjoyment, especially during daytime explorations.
